The redesign studies were never meant to improve travel by reducing the numbers of transfers required because of better routing. They were solely meant to cut operating costs by increasing walk times and travel times and by cutting service. All you had to do was read the Brooklyn Existing Conditions Report to ascertain that. They show Downtown Brooklyn as the fastest growing part of the borough and what is their recommendation to respond to this growth? It is to cut bus service in Downtown Brooklyn with the justification that the buses are not needed because there are so many subways in the area. They don't even look at how crowded these trains are or ask the question if they can absorb more passengers from the buses. Fewer bus lines means more transfers greater travel times. Who wants to take a bus and then change for a subway to go one or two more stops with so few stations with escalators or elevators? So these studies were never designed with the passenger in mind. |
