It was probably a huge coincidence that the new #20 bus line's franchise number as assigned by the Bureau of Franchises was M-20 - just as it was likely coincidence that the 14th Street Crosstown route would be designated by NYCO as #14. Given how the route numbers they assigned differed wildly from what the BoF had designated.Who would have also thought that, 40 years later and for a few years thereafter, this route would be assigned out of the former FACCo depot/garage on 132nd Street where, until the 1962 strike, another Route 20 - by 1976 known as the M28 57th Street Crosstown - had been based out of. Part 1 of a two-part crosstown bustitution (tune in tomorrow, folks). |
