Posted by W.B. on Fri Feb 15 04:03:02 2019 February 15, 1935 - The Book of First Runs Manhattan, New York Comprehensive Omnibus Corporation Service is inaugurated on a new crosstown route, M-7 - 65th Street. At its onset, this line takes a different path from what generations of riders are familiar with: running from 71st Street and York Avenue to 64th Street and West End Avenue, traveling eastbound on 64th Street all the way except for the trip through the 65th Street Transverse, and westbound on 67th Street to Madison Avenue, then after the trip through the Transverse north on Central Park West to 69th Street. It isn't until a few years afterwards that the route is modified to run east on 65th Street to Fifth Avenue (rerouted to Madison Avenue after 1966) and then 68th Street, and westbound on 67th Street to Fifth and 66th thereafter. (The route number will change to M29 in 1974, and again to the current M66 in 1989.) February 15-16, 1970 - The Book of Last Runs and Route Service Changes The Bronx and Manhattan, New York Manhattan and Bronx Surface Transit Operating Authority (Surface Transit Division) On February 15, important changes are made to the following Bronx bus routes (and one from Manhattan): - Service is discontinued on the Bx-6 - Throggs Neck, Bx-6A - Locust Point, Bx-6B - Throggs Neck Stadium and Bx-6C - Shuttle lines, all of which are merged into the Bx-40 - Tremont Avenue line. - Service is discontinued on the Bx-21 - Pelham Bay Park line; it is folded into the Bx-22 - Country Club line, which is rerouted along Bruckner Boulevard and the IRT Pelham Bay Park station. - The M-100 - Broadway-Kingsbridge line is extended north from 240th Street and Riverdale Avenue to 246th Street along the same thoroughfare. On February 16, more changes are put into effect: - The Bx-14 - Edenwald Avenue line is extended to the City Line. - The Bx-24 - Bailey Avenue line is extended to 254th Street and Henry Hudson Parkway. - The Bx-49 - Highbridge line is extended during weekday base hours to Walton Avenue.
