It was mentioned in the newspaper articles cited as part of a move to simplify the corporate structure; and that with three entities, NYCO was paying that many times as much corporate tax, as well as complicating the issue of liabilities in cases of crashes, accidents, pedestrians being run over, etc. (I am aware that all three firms, as well as "affiliated" Fifth Avenue Coach ["affiliate" was a favorite word of The New York Times], were all owned by the same outfit in those days.) As well, it was meant to improve flexibility of usage of buses from depots on more routes than had been. You may have noticed in some vintage 1930's photos that a few runs of the 17 - 79th Street Crosstown had 'MADISON AVENUE COACH COMPANY INC.' flagging on their sides, as did a few runs of 11 - Ninth and Amsterdam Avenues, though the former route then was technically NYCO and the latter Eighth Avenue Coach; no doubt even then those routes were stationed out of 100th Street (today's Tuskegee Airmen) depot, no? But it was also mentioned in the articles that there was to be no expected change in service or personnel, nor any change in the bus fare (cited then as 10 cents). So, indeed, that merger was very much strictly for inter-corporate purposes. The routes were all listed as NYCO anyway on their route maps (both 1939 and 1947 editions) as well as most of Hagstrom's bus maps (save the 1950 edition which did mention NYCO, MACCo and EACCo).

You and others frequenting this sub-board may have noticed as I put these up, there is as much importance to events like these, or to the various one-way conversions between 1948 and 1966, or the numerous other service changes documented, as there was in 'IRTRedbirdR33's' posts about conversions of old streetcar lines to buses in the 1935-36 (NY Railways/NYCO) and 1946-47 (TARS/STS) periods in Manhattan. All are very important in understanding the complicated history of surface transportation in this here city.
