Re: Q60 Queens Blvd

This is DOT's most insane plan yet, worse than what the did and plan to do to Woodhaven Blvd.

On Saturday afternoon, hardly the peak hour, I drove from Queens Center to the BQE along the center roadway. This time I actually saw a bike in the bike lane. He was right in front of me as I entered the main road. We kept passing each other and he reached the BQE ten seconds before me. He even stopped and waited at every red light.

Now if bikes average 9.5 mph, that was also my average speed. So what will it be with the loss of another lane of traffic? Keep in mind the average speed on the service road is already much less like between 3 and 6 mph, and the Q60 speed in this portion is slower than the car. So the Q60 would travel faster in the main road.

But if one lane on the service road was not removed in 2001, it wouldn't be as slow as it is now in the first place. The average speed for cars after this plan goes through will be like 6 mph on the main road and 2 mph on the service road.

Bus passengers will be inconvenienced by having to walk further to and from the bus stops. This plan must be stopped and I hope someone is willing to sue to stop it since DOT already stated community opinion does not matter.
