When I was a kid in the early '60s we would go to the lower east side to buy pickles from Guss, and I would see these old buses, unlike any I had ever seen. Coming from Rego Park, with its GMC Green Buses on the Q60, I was fascinated by the Ave B buses, but, sadly, never rode them.  They did eventually acquire modern buses before they closed up shop.
