Not exactly true. The C-50's were the first buses to replace the 1936 YC 720 Queen Mary's on Rt 15 Jackson Heights in 1951. FACCO planned to replace all the remaining Queen Marys (Model 735's from 1938) in 1952 with GMC 5104's.There was such a public outcry of no more double deckers that FACCO decided to keep a few on Rt. 5 short turn service.
They ran from 57 St & 5 Av to 135 St. & Broadway along Riverside Drive. But they didn't want any on Fifth Avenue because they were too slow boarding.By 1953, FACCO decided to end all double decker service and they were replaced by Whites, which were assigned exclusively to Rt.15.By 1954 Omnibus Corporation sold FACCO to local interests and used the money to form Hertz Corporation, the rental car business. In 1958 the Mack C-50's were transferred to Surface Transit and the White 1140's were sold off in 1960.
