We lived on the Concourse until I was 14, at which time we moved to New Jersey. I transferred to the NJ High School, only to find out that I'd graduate a year later because of the sequence of courses they offered. So I re-registered back at Clinton for my final year, using my sister's address in the Bronx. Every morning I'd catch the Intercity #30 at 6:30 AM from Passaic to Manhattan. I'd typically have to wait for the Erie train from Chicago pass by as I walked to the bus stop. Ironically, the only time I got to school late was the one time a slept at my sister's. That morning there was a train wreck at Mosholu Parkway and Jerome Avenue. Two trains collided, and all the northbound buses were jammed, since the trains were out of service. Gee--I'm really dating myself, huh? |
