The ridership stats are available on the MBTA’s website with a little digging. Patronage did jump significantly. The lack of dedicated bus lanes is unfortunate and the overall execution may be flawed (enforcement of the bus-only lanes is woeful and I agree that those shelters are terribly designed) but the concept has merit – a tightly-operated Silver Line service could and should be an asset to the community even in its present iteration. Unfortunately, the MBTA has a history of poorly-operated bus service and the SL4 and SL5 are no exception. Advocates need to get over the fact that it isn’t a streetcar - the FTA was never going to pay for a Green Line extension after shelling out three-quarters of a billion dollars for the Southwest Corridor - and start demanding better operation of the service they do have by the T. |
