The union is exaggerating the problem about the buses stopping in MTA bus stops and conflicting with MTA buses. Discharging at Coney Island Avenue, the school buses usually just double park. They are also unsafe because they make illegal u-turns. They pick up at a block long stop that used to be shared with the B68, so there is plenty of room there.

The service has been operating for three to five years, not a little over a year. If it were to be discontinued, the MTA would have to increase B1 service on the eastern portion of the route by about 30% during certain parts of the day on Mondays through Thursdays according to counts I made. Also, the current terminal near Kingsborough College couldn't handle an increase of service by that amount. The school buses discharge on College property, which is not permitted for the MTA. The MTA does not consider the number of students using the school buses in its passenger counts although the story seems to indicate otherwise.
