Yeah I always wondered why it was so "cheap" to travel from the PABT to that part of Bergen County!But do you think that's one of the contributing factors to the decline of the GWB services? I think another one is that for most people, it's just not very convenient to take a relatively short bus ride over the bridge and then a loong subway ride down to midtown or downtown... of course if your destination is somewhere uptown or the UWS, the GWB is pretty convenient. Another factor might be the lack of a peak-hour XBL like at the Lincoln Tunnel. Yet another factor may very well be the "Spanish Bus", especially along Route 4. They're obviously doing something right - minibuses running every 5 minutes throughout the day, for most of the day, at a lower fare than NJT and R&T. I would love to know what the 171 bus was like before the Spanish Bus came around. Hell, even in the late 90's the 171 had a much higher level of service IIRC. |
