"No new bus orders have been talked about with the exception of more FORD/STAR Trans mini's and a few GMC/STAR Trans comming for rural routes."I've just gotten some updates as far as whats headed this way to CDTA. To dispell some rumors, CDTA is NOT getting any new Orions! From what I am hearing there is a batch of Gillig Low Floors heading this way and at least 6 of them will be Hybrids. There is also an order for MCI 45 footers similar to MTA's. They will be painted in CDTA's new scheme (once they decide on a new logo and paint scheme-the currant repaints will be repainted again to reflect the new scheme) but they will be operated by Upstate Transit Inc. of Saratoga for use on their commuter runs from Saratoga to Albany. CDTA took ownership of all the County/State purchased MCI D4000's that Upstate had been using so they all now bear OFFICIAL NY Plates. There is also some Chevrolet/Star Trans Cut-aways heading to the area for use on rurals and Saratoga. Upstate Transit is now operating the Shuttle bus running between Guilderland and Colonie Center/Crossgates Mall and they are using a Thomas Transit 30 Foot bus they had owned thru Matthews Bus Sales (A division of Upstate Transit) on the run. 2 buses have been restroyed in the past year to fires, 2025 which burned up in front of WAL MART in Glenmont and is sitting in a scap metal yard in Green Island NY, and 2018 which burned up on CDTA property in Albany and is sitting about 50 feet from where it burned up. CDTA now has reversed their interest in saving any Orion 1's, with the last 2 remaining units, 630 and 642 sitting at the back of their property being striped for parts. CDTA's only 2 Orion 05's are history with me owning one, 1001 (the one with the DD 6V92 engine) and 1002 (the one with the Cummins L10 engine) going to NIMCO. Not far from my house, in the town of New Lebanon on Route 20, sits CDTA 230 (1971 Flxible 35 foot transit with A/C)which was Schenectady Transit 230, rusting away. Someone really needs to buy it and restore it! John in Nassau,(not county) NY |
