My 1960 Chevy V-8always started but it quite an ordeal.I had a three speed on the column shift. Never put your parking brake on, just leave it in gear and park on a level surface. Depress the clutch , pump the gas pedal about 6 times, turn the key (remember the old automatic choke cars?). If the car started ,and mine did, use two hands to move the column shift lever to neutral. Slowly let the clutch out and let car run for at least two minutes. Now your rear axle grease is still like molasses, so when you drive off, it still feels crappy. After a while driving, your car warms up and runs better. I drove for Watervliet to Green Island 5X a week like this during the winter of 1960 & 1961. (Co-op job from Drexel University with Ford which used to be at the head of Green Island.) |
