That being said, there's a balance of moderation and forum etiquette most places which prevents argumentative threads. SubChat does not have this. Compared to boards relevant to my other interests (gaming, technology, TV, anime) railfanning is indeed a more hostile internet environment. In those other areas, flaming is quickly "extinguished" and non-constructive posts are deleted with repeat offenders temporarily banned (with NO ONE, not even other moderators, given preferential treatment). The end result is a nice place to come and chat. Whine about freedom of speech all you want, hobbyist forums are not the place for argumentative drivel. |

So in this case, while SubChat and other blogs may be causing emotional duress, this doesn't mean that you have to stop railfanning. |
