I am not "poor" (meaning I have what I need, and work for that I don't), but I am FAR from rich. It's a struggle to get by, but I do. I don't owe major debt, because I buy what I can afford, and pay off what I buy. I work two jobs in order to do this, a full time one, and a seasonal part time one. But I do it. I don't want anyone taking resposibility for my actions. But at the same time, I resent that many people feel they can just have things handed to them, when I work my ass off to get the things I have and to keep out of debt.Yes, it is very hard for the poor to get by, and they do need help. But only to get on their feet. They also need to take resposibility for themselves. People can't expect to stand there with their hands out indefinitely. There's no reason for that. Help should come to get people standing on their feet, but individuals shoudl take responsibility for themselves to stay standing. The first road to standing is to stop blaming others for individual predicament. People have to take resposibility for themselves. Once they have respect and resposibility of themselves, respect from others will follow. |
