I remember Johnson Avenue when it was mostly TREES. :(Riverdale was once a RAILROAD TOWN ... until the hi-rises and condoms went up. :( In Riverdale, there was once "FIELDSTON" which was where the mansions were - overlooking Manhattan College ... REST of the area was a few big apartment houses built in the late 30's (my OWN building, 3656 Johnson was one of those) and the "Co-op" which went up a few years later on the circle from 238th around the block from Johnson to the monument and back down Riverdale Ave ... but the REST was pretty much all cottages and single family homes. It was actully pretty KEWL in the 50's ... NOW? Ptoo. :( |
