TWU must realize that MTA can't print money, an MTA financial implosion is a few years away. NYC tax base ready to flee as it is due to worries about next mayor. Wall Street firms looking more and more to Jersey City for office space. Lhota will be the next MTA chairman to quit early in frustration. How do we solve this?

Oddly in all this Cuomo makes the most sense, he knows NY can't compete with NJ and southern states due to our high taxes. His own party opposes him.

Even if the 'rehabs' are 20 or 25 years apart, that's a waste of money for such a short subway line. Better to spend that money addressing the engineering issues required at Prospect Park to allow for smoother Brighton Line service. That can be justified by the huge Brighton Line ridership.

If you are talking about the Franklin Av terminal itself, yes. Originally there were 2 tracks through the station which connected at grade to the Fulton St El. The Franklin Line was disconnected from Fulton circa 1923 although the dual contract plans for the upgrading of the Fulton El called for improving the connection between the Fulton St el and the Brighton Line which the Franklin at the time was a constituent part of. After the BRT was reorganized into the BMT in 1923, the new company decided to sever the Fulton connection to the Franklin line and operate the principal Brighton Lcl service into the subway at Prospect Pk. Whether or not both tracks were retained for Franklin service after the separation, I don't know since in My time I only remember a single track. When I first rode the Franklin shuttle in 1959, not only was a short 1/2 block long section of the old Fulton St structure still up but all the rails and ties were still in place on that section although the rails were of course extremely rusty from non use. When I rode it the next time in 1960 or so, the rails and ties had been removed although the structure remained until the recent rebuilding.

I've ridden the line. It does have good ridership. It's a shame that the 1998-99 rebuilding job seems to have been done poorly, but the solution is to do it right this time.

Scarce transit $$$ can be better spent elsewhere. Tear it down this time or be prepared to 'rebuild' it every 15 years.

It's not being 'rebuilt' this time, it's track ballast.

All the G needs is a transfer to an IRT line. Imagine if someone was able to travel from Greenpoint to the Brooklyn Museum without backtracking. Hoyt-Schermerhorn could be connected to Hoyt Street on the 2 and 3.

It would need a two-block-long corridor to connect the two Hoyt St. stations. Hoyt St. IRT is actually closer to the Jay St. IND station. The west (RR north) end of the Hoyt St. platforms could be connected to the south end of the Jay St. mezzanine.

There is a closed passageway from Hoyt-Schermerhorn that leads to closed exits on Livingston St. Connect that to the basement of Cookie's and take over that basement. Extend that to Nevins St. IRT. :p:p:p

If there are closeds exits from Hoyt-Schemerhorn on Livingston St., that is only one block away from the Hoyt St. station on Fulton St. Is there still a basement entrance from Macy's to the Brooklyn bound IRT?

Actually:

My plan for the Franklin Shuttle would be to again rebuilt it, this time restoring it to two tracks, lengthening the platforms to 480 or 600 feet and making Franklin Avenue a through station for a connection to the Myrtle Avenue line that (would include a rebuild of the upper level station at Myrtle Avenue and run as a "Black V" on a new Myrtle-Brighton stretch to Coney Island (with a transfer to the G in the stretch that would connect the existing lines). This would allow the (Q) to be a full-time Brighton Express to Brighton Beach while the "Black V" and (B) would serve as the locals on the Brighton line to Coney Island. Such would be built to where it also allow the (Q) to when necessary access the Broadway-Brooklyn line to get to Manhattan (either via 6th Avenue or Nassau Street).
