The mechanisms have what I like to refer to as a spring-loaded J-hook that holds one end of each spool in place. All you need to do is push on the J-hook with a knife or screwdriver until the spool comes out. The other end of the spool simply lifts out sideways. |

Perhaps you can answer this: What would happen if you set more than two drum switches to on? IIRC the two switches at the conductor's post are set to on while the ones at either end of the train are set to off; the rest are set to through. It would probably wreak havoc on the trainline door control circuit. |

No, what I meant was while you were there cranking for all it was worth, the entire BOX would come off its hooks and into your hands ... 1689 had the same problem which is why I knew it was coming when I felt it.
