World of Subways Vol 1: PATH Route

This new simulator looks very promising! It by and large, beats any current train simulator in terms of graphics and the fact that it's the PATH route makes it all the better.

It appears to have that horrible "flatness" of MSTS in its graphical representation, doesn't have the "rocking motions" and "physics" of BVE though I must admit, looks purty ... couldn't find the download though, and their "English pages" keep going deutsche on me ... but yeah, looks interesting. There's been MANY screenshots over the years of "coming soon" and sadly, that's all I managed to find ... demo anywhere?

I'm not sure, but it will be released in the 3rd Quarter (July~September) 2008.

Quote from a German page, translated into English by Google.

With "Berlin Subway" in 2005 we the first Subway Add-On for the MSTS. Now let's take a step further. The idea was to create a very special subway simulator to develop what is in a position with today's technology and graphics particularly striking underground feeling even better in the home PC. This idea we have now. We have a separate subway simulator with modern graphics, real physics and many other features. Under the label "World of Subways" we will, together with the publishers AEROSOFT, some of the most interesting underground railway routes in the world for the PC public. We want to start with one of the oldest subway systems. The connection between New Jersey and New York City: the PATH route.

Interesting…

Not true. In fact, no portions of the PATH tunnels are even 100 years old yet. The original Hudson Tubes opened well AFTER the first IRT subway

My guess is that he was adverting to this from nycsubway.org,

The PATH system has a long history which actually precedes the IRT. In 1874 Dewitt Clinton Haskins raised sufficient funds and built more than 1000 feet of tunnel under the Hudson. He was forced to abandon work after an accident which resulted in the loss of 20 workers. In 1890 a new attempt was made with estimated completion in 1895. Money trouble soon caused the failure of this attempt. It was not until after 1900 that William Gibbs McAdoo and Charles Jacobs resumed work on the tunnel. They even planned an ambitious expansion of the original plans; their system would connect New York City with not just Jersey City but also Newark and Hoboken, and then to Herald Square in New York. The first test train ran in December of 1907.

So the question of age depends on if the current system uses any part of those original tunnel sections from 1874.

Otherwise known as MP-38s, these were the Red counterparts to the Blacks. They were numbered in the 700's and another set was numbered in the 1900's. They looked like a cross between a Lo-V and an MP-54, complete with owl eyes, and a round headlight up front. They had Pennsy tuscan red livery with yellow numbers and lettering.

Those GBL RTS's were not junk. in 2005 i rode them almost everyday and they never broke down on me. I rode them a lot on the Q35 also never had any problems. Also they were FAST buses the only bad thing about is the A/C. Other than that they were GOOD buses.

It is the shuttle looking bus in the second picture. I thought those were built by volvo though. I recall seeing volvo on the gas pedal. Maybe volvo built the engine, and another company built the body.

Also, i never rode any of the articulated buses, i think they are volvo too, though they look cool.

And i assume the bus in the first picture is an MCI.

Did you take those pics? the last two are obviously outside newark penn station, quite familiar to me.

Also, when i was in manhattan a few months ago, i was amazed to see buses with floors as low as the sidewalk, that impressed me, though i assume such buses don't have solid axles, and don't know how robust they are, since they don't have a traditional frame. No buses with such low floors in NJ, at least none that i have seen, and while i was on long island, i saw some buses with crazy fast acceleration, they looked new, don't know what they were, but they had the traditional shape of the bus in that third pic there.

That bus in the second pic is an RTS, which was built by novabus.

And yes the first pic is an MCI bus.

And yes i did take those pics.

And those buses with floors as low as the sidewalk are orion VII hybrid buses. But those buses are a POS though esp the ones in queens.

And that bus you seen in LI was an orion V CNG. Did it have an orange an blue stripe like the bus in the pic below?
