Will there be a 'P' Train After All |
|
Posted by arnine on Thu Sep 23 17:56:18 2010 Well, the LIRR just posted this link on their FB page:"http://mta.info/supplemental/lirr/JCOCutover.htm" Which includes a link to this PDF file: "http://mta.info/supplemental/lirr/JCO2010.pdf" There is no mention of the P train or even any sort of special subway service. So, is there going to be a 'P' train and they are just not advertising it? This will be for 2 weekends not 1. 10/23-10/24 & 11/6-11/7. I still want to see the 'P'! |

Well the plus side is (Well, for me at least) is the interesting shuttle bus G.O between Mineola & Jamaica! Now that I know the LIRR shuttles are free I gotta fan that route! If NYCT & MTA Bus equipment is used on that G.O I am going to be a pile of mush! |

Hence why I asked "So, is there going to be a 'P' train and they are just not advertising it?"Maybe it is gonna run but they don't want to advertise it and have signs at JAM? Maybe they don't want us flooding the train? |

Now, if the MTA were smart, it would add additional Q110 service to service Queens Village and Hollis, and beef up N24 service to service Merillon Avenue and New Hyde Park (from Jericho Turnpike). In addition, the MTA for that weekend should reroute the Q110 to end at Jamaica LIRR instead of Parsons/Hillside.The MTA should also add extra Q85 service to service Laurelton (from Conduit and 225), Rosedale, and Locust Manor stations and extend the runs to Jamaica Center. |

Ronkonkoma train rerouted via the South Shore and the Central Branch I think 1 is actually a Long Beach train. They note somewhere that Far Rock service will only be every 2 hours. Long Beach service is typically hourly on weekends and is unmentioned in the announcements, so I assume that it will stay that way. |

I think it is because they want to minimize the time lost by having the Mineola-Jamaica leg be via bus by having them all run express. The relatively small number of passengers for Merillon Ave and NHP can walk from nearby Hempstead branch stations if they live south of the Main Line, or take regular bus service along Hillside Ave and Jericho Turnpike if they live north of the tracks. |

It certainly sounds like it -- my guess is that they are running a single track operation through Jamaica. Should be interesting, I would love to be there to see it in action. |

What I think the 3 Penn trains will be is Ronk, Hunt, Babylon, because they said Hunt service will be reduce to1 anhour, to bi-hourly Port Jeff shuttles.LB will die at Jamaica. Far Rock will be a Valley Stream shuttle now that WH has been put out of its misery. It would not surprise me if the OB's are Mineola shuttles relaying at Queens Tower. It will look very much like a Xmas Day schedule that Chuck Hoppe attempted around 1990 to cut costs. |

NYCT will be running a 'dedicated' service, presumably via 53 St express, between Jamaica Center and NYP. It remains to be seen what will make it a 'dedicated' service. |

Well, the service alert and PDF LIRR put out mentions nothing of any dedicated subway service, so how do you know: "NYCT will be running a 'dedicated' service"? Maybe they are and not advertising it for fear there will be more railfans than pax on it. but curious to know your source. |

They will have two unidirectional tracks through JAY/HALL; the routings are apparently for Long Beach, Babylon, and Ronkonkoma via Central Branch trains. It looks as though Oyster Bay trains will turn via NASSAU; Hempstead trains will turn via QUEENS. |

I looked at the files for both July Meeting which referenced the June LIRR Committee minutes, and the September Meeting which referenced the July LIRR Committee Minutes. I also looked at the Capital Improvements section in bot of the meeting files and saw no mention of it. So, please reference for me where it is?Either way. I take the LIRR's PDF and Service Alert as precidence over the MTA Reports as the released it Two Days ago, which presumably is after their Reports were filed. Neither the PDF & Service Alert mention anything of the dedicated subway service, and just mentioned to take the E train (and note no mention of there even being any additional E service). So, either there is no dedicated or they aren't advertising the dedicated service for whatever reason, but that is doubtful and only giving it a thought because Train Dude was the one who said this service would run and he usually is not wrong. But, maybe they changed their mind on dedicated subway service after the reports were filed, and TD mentioned it?? Remember, LIRR is still paying $$ for the HALL fiasco and storm issues and $$ is tight. |

See p 115 of the .pdf file for the reference. As for the matter of precedence, the staff summary is good through September 29, and is signed off on by the President of LIRR as well as its VP of Operations. I count that as fairly good authority for what LIRR is planning. |

Ok, thanks for the refernce, but when was the document actually put together and written (they can pre-date)? If before their release of the PDF & Service Alert on 9/23 then that should take precedence. It is possible though that they do not want to advertise it, or forgot to put it into the PDF & Service Alert.Although, it does not specifically define what they mean by "dedicated subway service" is, I would assume an actual line, but Train Dude only said it for the 1 October weekend and not the November weekend so I guess we will have to wait and see :( |
