Photos: NJT's lonliest outpost

It's been a while, so I thought I'd get off my ass and do some of this here railbufferizing y'all seem to like doing:

After closing Great Notch, Lebanon on the RVL is now the least used station in the system. Only one other person got off my train here, and I was the only one who got on 30 minutes later. Unfortunately, most of the relics that were here for years are now gone (where?), which was disappointing. I was hoping to get a good look at the GG-1 and the E8 which were parked here on a siding.

The only three old cars left here are the 20th Century Ltd's observation car and two old passenger coaches.

Class and crap, you know which is which:

Two of the station house, looking west and east respectively:

Couple of bonus shots at Newark Penn. Virtually all non ACL Newark division diesels are now using multilevels. The only one which definitely will not use them is the two runs the Jersey Coast Commuter Club coach uses:

Anyone know why there are a dozen Comet I's sitting sitting just west of Raritan? I thought they were all either leased out or crushed to pieces.

Enjoy!

Wonder where they are now.

No need to wonder. Just because Chris doesn't know, doesn't mean the rest of us can't know it either :)

Google

I also think the move was discussed here one or more times, but I could be wrong.

Thank you, I really appreciate the info :)

For now, glad to see it is now in Booton. At the URHS storage I will contact them and see if they give tours, etc :)

I must have missed the thread or it didn't click in my head. I should tattoo Google on my hand lol

Lebanon is so lightly used because people are afraid of Hezbollah attacks.

Similarly, another reason could be because most of the museum equipment is no longer stored there.

Those condos in the background have more than doubled ridership there !

Hah, yea I noticed that as well. Without the condos, there's NOTHING there. There's some signs of civilization down that hill to the north of the ROW.

What you see is a single condo complex. It basically provides the station with almost all it's meager ridership. The town of Lebanon itself is a good walk away, down a very steep slope (the station itself is HARD to reach on foot because of this).

They are two dimensional. They don't show the steep hill the ROW is up on and how hard it is to get to it on foot.

It's hard to get to this station from downtown Lebanon itself.

It's not a subway station, so I wouldn't expect much in the way of walking passengers in an exurban commuter rail station that doesn't even run 1 tph off-peak. FWIW, I'd argue that the station cachement area is depressed due to the giant park and reservoir just south of the station. I suspect if NJT becomes really bored, they may consider closing it and telling the locals to go to White House. Of course, one is tempted to argue if driving on I-78 or US 22 to Raritan is simply a prudent alternative...
