Hey Paul, long time no see! I'm actually heading to NYP myself in about 6 hours to catch A49 to Cleveland for a week, for a long-deserved vacation (my last full day off from work was August 8!) |

Oh, and here's some crappy shots of 10002 (their other inspection car) which I got on A171 last Tuesday:![]() How's that for a RFW? ![]() It has some powerful headlights for night inspections! ![]() And it even has its own pantograph! BTW Paul, today will be the day I FINALLY complete the entire MNRR system, by riding Poughkeepsie to CP 75! |

Why does nobody call it the Beech Grove any more? The Amtrak officials on board were nice enough to give me a walk through when I went to take pictures on the platform at Penn Station. The car is more of a Business car than an inspection car. Inside there is a rear observation area with about 8 large seats, then there are three huge bedrooms each with a permanent double bed in them, next a small eating area and finally a kitchen. No pictures as I didn't want to be "that guy". |

The Beech Grove is the one that tends to roam the nationwide network. The Clipper stays on the corridors. The reason is that the Clipper has no amenities for overnight travel and Amtrak doesn't need to inspect lines it doesn't own. |

Clipper is not a inspection car like Beech Grove other than for technical inspections. Its labeled a Geometry car as is 10003 the extra Acela car. |

Inspection in the old fashioned railroad use of the word meaning a car for the Railroad brass to inspect their property as opposed to a defect detector inspecting a train. The Beech Grove is Amtrak's version of a G-Five, only I think that un-fun version of "Rule G" probably applies :-( |
