Despite its age (102 years) it is a well run system and is now replacing all of its 1965-1982 rolling stock with a brand new fleet of P5 cars. And it does not receive taxpayer subsidies. |

I hardly see how what you wrote shows that PANYNJ is doing a great job with PATH. But even if I accepted what you wrote, how does that show that the PANYNJ overall is doing a great job in all of its endeavors, as PATHman was stating? |

That thread still gives me the chills today.I remember the last time I saw the WTC.... I had a date with a girl I was dating in Manhattan on the East Side....and I was driving in on the LIE to meet her on a beautiful Saturday evening. The sun was setting, and as I approached the Midtown Tunnel, I glanced over at the WTC out of my window, they were all lit up and sparkling in the evening dusk, and I was all excited about my date. The day was August 11, 2001. Little did I know what would happen exactly a month later on that quiet evening. I would be the last time I looked at the WTC in person..... |

I remember the last time I passed through the World Trade Center. It was Saturday, September 8, 2001. After spending some time at the Try Transit Festival in Hoboken, the time came for me to leave and attend a class at Queens College. I headed to the PATH station, and arrived just in time to see a 33rd Street train leave. My initial plan was to take a 33rd Street train, then take a V train at 34th Street, then get off at Woodhaven Boulevard for the Q88. With the 33rd Street train departing, I decided to take the next train out, which was headed to the World Trade Center. Upon arriving there, I walked through the concourse to take the E train. The concourse was noticeably quieter than usual, with a few of the businesses located there closed for the weekend. However, it did feel slightly eerie. I took the E train to Roosevelt, where a V train was waiting across the platform. At the time, I thought nothing of it, but now that I look back at it, I don't know what to think. One of the items I picked up while I was in Hoboken was a PATH QuickCard holder, promoting an event on PATH. The location: World Trade Center. The date: Thursday, September 13, 2001. Needless to say, that event didn't happen. You can see photos I took on that day here. |

I was going though some old stuff this morning - - papers I filed away. As was the case for the 15th time in a row, my WTC visitor ID came up. I wanted to cry for the 3,000 lost souls. |

Currently, my favorite is the ESB but once the new 1 and 2 WTC open (I'm so so about the other two buildings) those will be my favorite. I loved the TV antenna on the roof of the North Tower, I looked so cool up there, it survived the fall of the building intact, I wish they would have kept it intact and put it in that hanger in JFK, then bring it back in tact as part of the memorial thats being built @ the site.I was only in the WTC site itself once pre 9/11 passing though to go to the old 7 WTC. I seen the towers a whole bunch of times traveling on the various highways of the city when they was standing. My only grip about the new building (1WTC v2) is that Brooklyn won't have an good view of it as 2 WTC will be as almost as big as the ESB, thus blocking most of the view. I wasn't around to see the old WTC get built, its cool watching this new building go up, 1 & 4 WTC are the only buldings that are currently above street level with their construction, both will be finshed by 2013, I can't wait! |

Again, no specifics either way, so no sense continuing this sub-thread. Exactly what does "slightly better than average but not as good as should be expected" mean? Could refer to cars, stations, tracks, tunnels, service patterns, etc.I was only trying to mark the anniversary, anyway. I remember it well. Right away, the old H&M "black cars" carried a new blue and white sign that said "PATH/Port Authority Trans Hudson." The following year, the use of two small 15 cent tokens for the 30 cent fare was replaced with a single 30 cent larger token. And PATH initiated a design competition for 250 new cars, which of couse became the PA1 fleet built by St. Louis. A poster showing all bidders' designs was displayed in all of the old cars. |
