HBLR to Tenafly, NJ |
|
|
Posted by JayZeeBMT on Wed Sep 1 11:56:25 2010 While at Hoboken Terminal yesterday, I saw a big map display showing "future" HBLR construction all the way to Tenafly from the existing north term at Tonnelle Avenue. Does anyone know how far along this project is, or when it might be completed? NJT personnel at HOB had no idea. |

The original plan was to use DMU's, now they will have to electrify it. This means significant added costs. There is also opposition in Englewood and Tenafly which has not been fully defeated. |

Good thing too, because the costs are ridiculously high (not that their DMU transfer option costs too much less; makes me wonder how NJT manipulates their figures). The state should never have gotten rid of the Northern Valley commuter service. They deliberately made an indirect connection to Hoboken Terminal when Erie Terminal closed down to discourage ridership. |

I agree, the Northern RR would be heavily used today, even the Rockland county segment. A direct connection to Hoboken would have been easy to construct, although today it would be virtually impossible to have done so and allow trains to use Secaucus. |
