So if this hurricane hits just west of the city as is forecast for Friday PM, what's worst case for the tunnels? Praying they're wrong BTW.

Not so bad ... thing to remember with hurricanes is that the worst part of any is the northeastern part of the circulation. There, you have heavy wind and rain from the south. Also, any parts of it that are over land tend to shed water but aren't as intense as winds and rain over ocean. If the prediction holds true, the wind and water will be coming out of the north and draining into the bay rather than coming out of the south and filling up the estuaries.

Things will get wet, and it'll be plenty windy. Stuff will get blown off terraces and rooftops. Tunnels will go into full pumpitude and will likely keep up. Queens IND will have regularly scheduled gondolas ... :)

I heard that, and this is a few days ago, if Earl was to move a little slightly to the east and hit the city that the Lincoln, Holland, and Brooklyn Tunnels would end up being flooded.

Luckily though so far it doesn't look like that is going to happen, but the Weather Channel said that as Earl gets closer the track and be off by a few thousand miles.

The Track hasn't changed that much, the days have. First it was said to be Friday, and now they have it for Sunday i believe.

The only way for that to happen would be a "bowling alley" move where the hurricane comes up out of the southeast heading straight west along Long Island with the eye crossing just south of the harbor. It's happened before but is an extremely rare move ...
