Why are they taking the option when the first locomotive hasn't even been built yet, let alone passed testing? I would like them to just string wire and convert all of the ALP45DP orders to ALP46A.

Easier to switch from Dual Power Locomotive to Electric Locomotive. The Arrow IV should come out of a competition between the M-8 and the Silverliner V and whatever Denver orders (likely an FRA compliant version of the Siemens Desiro).

You sure about that? And besides, it's not easier to drop trailer cars in favor of MUs . . . ?

Not to mention, I hope you're aware that the oldest ALP-44s are 20 years old while the newest are a mere 14 years old, and they're all getting retired??

The Arrow IV should come out of a competition between the M-8 and the Silverliner V and whatever Denver orders (likely an FRA compliant version of the Siemens Desiro)

Where's the money coming from, for one thing . . . ? And Siemens Desiro for NJT?—there's no high-platform version, unless you want NJT to suddenly convert to all low platforms and stop all high-platform building, not to mention add 15 inches to the width and six feet to the length, plus get rid of the full-width cabs.

High platforms in England are over a foot shorter above rail than US high platforms; some are as many as 20 inches shorter. So how are you going to solve the width problem?

THE project will be built, but until it's ready these dual modes won't be able to be utilized as planned. That means they could all be 10-15 years old by the time they are.

It'll lead to NJT going bankrupt.

What makes it worse is Amtrak's new proposal to build their own tunnels, all because NJT didn't want to build the tunnels to the exising NYP as originally planned. (Should Amtrak ban NJT from their new tunnels, since NJT's new tunnels are useless to Amtrak?)

If true, that's dumb. NJT is obsessed with getting every single one of it's trains into Manhattan, which I think is overkill. While most passengers might want to go to Midtown, there's just not enough demand to fill every seat on all the trains they want to route into the ARC tunnels.

Siemens has alluded to making a FRA legal version of the Desiro ML units. They're otherwise known as the Class 460.

They're going to have to build them longer and wider. They're already tall enough at the roofline, but not at the floor line for high platforms.
