But he's right, the railroad did run on ground level, much like the Bushwick Branch does today. The line was used for freight into the 80's, I believe 1982. |

Actually, while it was street level, it did have it's own ROW, which you can still trace through the neighborhood on aerial views. Some parts have homes built on it now. |

As years went on, much of the ROW has been disrupted by construction. I loved those tracks as a kid. Much of the rail was still visible into the early 90's. |

What a shame...heh, i wouldn't mind if people built their homes over that mess of a road that is Kings Highway. I mean jeez, that road cuts thru Brooklyn the way Broadway does for Manahttan - it shouldn't have had a place in a grid structure. |

My family lived on Eldert, between Irving and Knickerbocker. My 60-something year-old uncle just told me that they called this track "The Dummy Track", and played along the ROW as kids. Prince Spaghetti had a factory along the ROW. |

I think the last customer was a Lumber Yard by Putnam Ave, but there was a huge fire there in the late 70s or early 80's, and that was the end of it. i think the line was abandoned by around 1982. |
