Posted by Neil Feldman on Tue Apr 20 15:47:48 2010 A friend of mine who was a Coach Cleaner, now an engineer let me inside a train layed up at Port Washington about 4 years ago. The result was getting a picture inside M1 9299 just before this car was retired, and scrapped. This car at that time just had its lavatory sealed shut as well. Here's the shot based out of my archives: A distant memory, and long live the M1's! |

That's a nice pic and a very good representation of what the M-1s looked like in their final years - dark and depressing, with worn out floors, garishly colored seats whose cushions were years past their primes, and disgusting bathrooms that had to be smelled to be believed.Thank God the M-1s are gone. |

Surprisingly, that M1 set was basically on "Rubberbands", and the car I was in was a mismatched pair with 9400 instead of 9300 on it. Yes, the car I was in had its lavatory sealed shut being discusting in the process. The car however was kept clean in this case. Yes, filminess was on its windows, and such. And believe me, the cars used for "The Farewell To M1 Excursion", everything was kept in prime condition until after it, then those cars were basically to be placed in its coffin. If you look at the M1's kept in Riverhead, Anthony who is the prime care maintainer of them, has kept that pair in perfect displayable condition except for the weathered stripe, but in time will have its work on it, but for now, it is not the biggest in the list of priorities right now. |
