Posted by 7th Avenue Express on Sat Apr 10 12:34:45 2010 Now apparently the 9 train will make a comeback and run to New Lots while the 1 and 3 will run to 14th street with the 2 and 9 making local stops from 96th to Chambers, all while they work on Cortlandt Street. We will see if this actually gets implemented. |

I'm wondering though, can't they just run all three West Side IRT routes to Brooklyn?Have the 1 and 3 both run to New Lots, and keep the 2 and 3 express & the 1 local in Manhattan as normal. The 2 and 3 combined don't run nearly as often as the 4 and 5 do during the busiest point of rush hour, so I'm sure there's some extra capacity in there somewhere to fit the 1. It would keep things flowing and not make anyone have to transfer at 14th St to keep going. And plus, with the planned service cuts and the new passenger loading guides, there will definitely be some space freed up on the 2/3 lines to include the 1 as well. |

I am hoping that the "new" Cortlandt Street IRT will resemble the original 1918 one - although I'm not sure if there are any extant designs for the original tablets - the plaques and friezes have enough surviving examples in order to be recreated.Do they have a planned finish date for this? -wayne- |

My ideas:Run the 3 train between Harlem/148th St & Times Square at all times but use middle track south of Times Square to turn back trains.. Run the 2 train as it is. Extend the 1 train to New Lots Av replacing the 3 train, use the leftovers R62 from the 3 train to the 1 train for this extension. |

So you're trying to tell us that the cash strapped MTA is going to redo a station that is in the middle of a construction pit, and no buildings set to open until, oh only God knows when.I have heard the 1 was SUPPOSED to go to New Lots this summer because of construction at Ground Zero, but I think that has been put on old due to the tantrums between the Port Authority and Silverstein which just got resolved a couple of weeks ago. I am pretty sure the change in service was for safety reasons above all else. It seems that nobody wanted to take the chance of a lawsuit if something went wrong. (equipment striking the "tube" or building materials falling on the "tube") |

If Flatbush can handle 2 lines then N/Lts certainly can since unlike Flatbush, it is not critical which track is used for which service and in rush hours, layups and put ins can be easily moved into the yard without blocking arriving mainline trains. |
