There, you have to specify gender when buying it from a TVM and it's printed on the pass itself, no punching ever required. |

On the Green cars in Tokyo, a conductor or an attendant will tap the Suica to his/her portable reader to validate. From then on if a seat becomes available you just tap it there and sit down. It's a bit more complicated if you happen to be using paper tickets, any kind of tourist pass or paid on board cash fare. You have to call the attendant whenever you find a seat or want to move seats. You tell the attendant where you are getting off and the attendant will turn the lights to its right color accordingly. |

I one time had a ticket from Yonkers to Peekskill. The ticket was punch on the M7, but not on the Genesis. So the next day I brought a ticket to Yonkers to Croton and it was punch and the Yonkers to Peekskill ticket from the day before was finally punched. With the prices on MNN and LIRR getting way out of hand (for another thread) I'll take the "free" discount anyway I can. |

"the Yonkers to Peekskill ticket from the day before was finally punched"If you boarded are Harmon and used that same ticket, with the exception being if the ticket was past its validity period of six (6) months from the date of purchase, there really is no way to know if it was used that same day or held over from another day. Hey, we ain't perfect, something always slips thru the cracks!! lol |

I boarded the train at Yonkers to go back to Peekskill. So going home the next day I just had to buy a Croton to Peekskill ticket because in theory I already had the ticket for Peekskill, since it was only punch once.I do notice the "free" rides usually happen much more northbound compared to southbound. |
