What was the source of the book? Having worked in all RTO operating titles including a vacation relief M/M on all BMT/IND lines, extra list BMT/IND Train Dispatcher, schedule maker and Trainmaster, I can assure you that when 2 services share a common track, the running time for both has to be the same. The only exception came in when the "genius" who was the Director of Schedules from 1986 to 97 decided to give OPTO G trains 1 min more runtime than the R between Ctl and Qns Plz. Fortunately this was only during late midnights and weekends when clearances between trains are less critical due to longer headways but the schedule managers had to make sure that there was sufficient clearance between G trains and following R trains so that an R wouldn't catch up with its G leader. Otherwise especially during peak periods when clearances between trains are critical, the running times on all trains sharing common track must be the same. What may have happened with that so called red book was that the person or persons compiling the book might have timed the actual running time rather than consulting the scheduled running time. Of course with different types of equipment certain cars may run faster than others but the scheduled running time must reflect the actual running time of the slowest equipment on the line with the faster train often having to be held to scheduled departure time at the next scheduled gap station.

Aha! Reckless disregard of public safety at South Ferry, eh? Only going to protect the riding "publick" when there's cameras present, eh? Well well well ... :)

What about the 14th St Local and Express between Myrtle and Lorimer? While we're on the Multi's, what about the 14th St and Fulton St services between Lefferts and Atlantic?
