Can't ride Low-V's Memorial Day Weekend, Why not Operate One?

Posted by Lou from Brooklyn on Wed May 18 08:00:00 2005

Canceled Low-V trip got you down?
Why not only RIDE a Low-V but get to operate it too.
And it is cheaper then the MOD trip, $35 non-members, $20 Members.
MNRR to New Haven and F line bus, see the website for specfic travel directions by flanged or rubber wheel.

That's me in the picture...
http://www.bera.org/guestop.html

If you've always wanted to run a streetcar or subway train, take advantage of this opportunity at the Shore Line Trolley Museum by signing up for the Guest Operator program.
You'll be given an overview of operating principles by one of our instructors. Then it will be your turn to take the handles and operate solo! Don't worry, you won't have any regular passengers, just you, your instructor, and your invited guests.

The fee of $35 includes your admission and one year's individual membership in the museum at the Associate level. You'll also receive a photo-certificate of completion, suitable for framing.

The Guest Operator program will be offered in 2005 on May 28/29, June 25/26, July 30/31, August 27/28 and September 24/25. Reservations are suggested, especially if you have a preference for operating a specific car. The Guest Operator program is also available, on trolley cars only, on other days by prior registration (please book at least two weeks in advance), subject to instructor availability. Please call the museum at the number below, or contact us by email.
The Shore Line Trolley Museum

That is an excellent suggestion for those of you who want to spend one day this upcoming holiday weekend. And you can bring your camera without having to worry about the photoban police stopping you at the museum. :-)

ADDENDUM--

Not everyone whom wants the LO-V will be able to GET the Lo-V.

As operating hours dwindle, some are offered OTHER equipment to operate as SUBSTITUTIONS.

Tis' my personal unBERAble experience.

(unless they found other SUITABLE ways to handle the masses!)
Brahs be told!

This is sounding better and better all the time, though Mem' Day weekend is now out for me. In the absence of the MOD trips, I scheduled my knee surgery for the 27th, so I'm going to be laid up a couple days over the weekend.

In any event, I might try to head up there later in the year...

Goos luck with your knee problem. I had my torn medial meniscus scoped for the second time in 10 years. So it must be weak or something.

Hey! Now lets see ya's put --THAT-- in the ad.

Easy, Jeff... You were 1 of the FEW (4 or 5) brahs whom gave Superior Service
during my past visits... thy issue DOES NOT lie with you, Sir.

I was just reflecting on a past occurence where THERE WAS NO mechanical
difficulty... and regardless, I was given a SUBSTITUTE vehicle.

(would HATE to see another brah go thru "dashed hopes" & what I went thru... thus
is why I was suggesting adding that DISCLAIMER in the advertisement..)

Old Issue.
Suggest a Disclaimer.
My RR bucks go elsewhere.

Peace 2 you, JeffH!! & thanks for (YOUR) superior service!!

If BERA makes YOU happy-- GOOD FOR YOU....

The gave me a spinal so my upper body was awake. So I watched part of the operation on a monitor. After my lower body woke up, I was fine until the anesthesia wore off, and I was home. I was a Little shaky the first night, then fine the next day. Then it was off to rehab. for about 4 weeks.
But, yes, it's really not a big deal.

Hey, that sounds like something which happened quite a few years
ago, before we had this formal "guest operator" program. For
what it's worth, the individual who was probably responsible for
your disappointment has long ceased his active involvement with

If I may, as a proud member, stuff happens. When it happens OFTEN, then it's a problem. If it happens once, it shouldn't be a big deal. I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity I had to be able to run one of my favorite "trains" without the TA silliness of getting paid for it, among the company of fantastic folks. No matter what anyone does to try to please people, there will always be someone who takes the rare event and sees it as the "norm." Just wanted to add my two cents in PRAISING BERA for the best time I've had in thirty plus years. THANKS! :)
