Considering that it obviously hasn't been announced publicly yet, what do you think we can tell you??? I can tell you that rumor has it that it is running this year, on the same schedule and route as last year, but that's only a rumor, and where does that get you?

A TM source that I have who in the pst has never given me wrong info says yes to it running. Last year's press release went out 11/25 so it should be any day now but I c the vintage bus press release has gone out already

The R1-R9 Holiday Train is supposed to be eight cars this season.

I think the R1-R9 Holiday Train ran on the (N)(R) from 57th Street-Seventh Avenue to Whitehall on Sundays in 2004 then switched to the (V) from Queens Plaza to Lower East Side-Second Avenue on Sundays in 2005 and has run on the (V) since.

In both cases (Broadway, Sixth Avenue) the Holiday Train has served 34th Street-Herald Square (shopping, PATH) and Rockerfeller Center (Christmas Tree, ice skating).

Yes, the press release, dated 11/24/2009, for the vintage buses was put online on the MTA's website. It lists the three buses to be used (#3100, #9098 and #2969), the route (#M42) and the hours through the holiday season (weekdays 10:00am-2:00pm).

That is an exact quote from the TSS who is normally in charge of the train.
I did not question him about the 29th, he made this announcement about the train and the buses in front of a body of people last Saturday. The following Sunday he was in NY putting up the car cards on the buses.

That's all you will get from me.

By the way, there will be a G.O. in effect this weekend, that will send all Manhattan-bound "F" trains via 53rd Street and 8th Avenue to Jay Street-Boro Hall. The Brooklyn-bound "D" trains will make additional stops at 23rd Street and 14th Street in place of the "F", so it would probably be a go at least for the Holiday Train then on Sunday 12/6/2009, provided it is planned to operate via 6th Avenue.

If it was publicly announced there would have likely been a press release on mta.info and/or a special webpage listed under "Service Advisories". Plus there would likely be a lot of threads about it, or at least one very active thread with all the info.

Good detective work.

I was a bout to post that I doubt if it was going to run this weekend since no announcement was made and it is not December yet. By starting to run it when they are, they have 4 Sundays during the holiday season: 6/13/20/27.

The R-1/9s did run on the N/R line to either Canal or Whitehall as part of the Centennial runs in 2004. As much as I'd like to see them back there, the 6 AV Line seems to be the best for the Holidays, not to mention that it is the home turf of the IND cars. =)
