Found in a 1943 Long Island Forum issue at the West Islip Library. Part of a public relations report called the White Report. When it was still PRR turf. Interesting proposed system electrification timetable, "Provided there is definite assurance of sufficient earnings, through adequate fares and relief from burdonsome property taxes."

That is great stuff. Thanks for posting.

Interesting to see that electrifying the Central between Bethpage and Babylon was considered higher priority than the Northport/Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branches...

They even intended to electrify the Manorville branch!

What they were proposing was to go from west to east.

As long as they got some relief from their Property Taxes...

It's good to see that some things on Long Island haven't changed!

Well, they electrified and grade-separated the Rockaway line before abandoning it, so why not Manorville?

great scan.

So in other words, the public option did NOT increase competition and keep them honest?

I'm gonna see if I can find similar stuff. All the libraries out here have local area history collections. I do like running into these things serendipitously.

That's good because that's an ad/article from the time. I like the newspapers that on Sunday run the stories about local history.
