Ugh fucking Warren Buffet. Some of us actually WANTED their BNSF stock, not stupid Berkshire Hathaway. BNSF always had one of the better annual reports. Not as good as the old ATSF annual reports tho. I'll bet he renames it or something stupid like that.

Berkshire Hathaway also owns GEICO...so will we have geckos or googly eyes painted on BNSF locos?

Unlikely. Buffett is a longterm investor who looks for undervalued, well-managed companies. He then typically leaves the management team in place and doesn't meddle with silly things like the name of the company. Berkshire Hathaway is a true conglomerate in that respect.

Overall, this is probably good news for BNSF, since it means they don't have to make decisions just to massage the next quarterly report, and they get better access to capital through Berkshire.

I do find it odd, though, that Buffett bought BNSF and not UP, which has its headquarters in Omaha, his hometown.

odd??? Not at all. UP does NOT run a well managed ship compared to BNSF. If Buffett wants a company that already is well managed just "under priced" BNSF fits the bill.

Well, I *thought* it was telling that Buffett didn't buy his hometown railroad -- either they were overpriced or poorly managed. I just didn't know which one.
