That is why I usually drive. I only started to return a couple of years ago when the R-160 and the scratchitti-free window program was put into place. I only use the system occasionally to get a break from ther traffic.

Ok well my suggestion is stay in your car. Sadly, I think scratchitti, acid etching and wall grafitti is here to stay for a while

It has been around since 1983. It can be taken care of with continual maintenance. The R-142, 143, 160 have their windows scratchitti free and it has been that way for years. The only scratchitti on the R-142 & R-143 is on the window masks and metal frames.

The R-62 & 68 now have scratchitti-free windows for the first time in 20 + years.

The R-44 & R-46 are scratchitti-free. THe only remaining scratchitti on the R-46 is on the glass or the cars that did not go through a SMS yet.

The R-32 & R-42 are on their way to the scrap yard.

The only scratchitti that is not currently being addressed is on the stainless steel interior walls of the R-62 & R-68.

I agree it needs to be addressed but honestly the MTA has more important things to take care of right now. Again, if you don't like it do something about it. Or, stay in your car. Not much else we can do.

This is VERY important because it sets a tone system wide. The situation inside the R-62 & R-68 escalated to every metal surface and glass throughout the entire system. Have you seen the token booth on 40th & 6th Lately? There were two small acid etch tags for about two years. It was allowed to remain, take a look at it now, it is out of control. The T.A. was on the verge of a collapse in the 1970's & Early 1980's. it was a total joke because they continue to not address important issues. I have tried to do something about it. I have written dozens of letters to dozens of officials for the past 20 years and all I get is lip service. I will remain in my car and pay $600.00 / mo for my parking lot just to avoid this outrageous blight.

Well, go a step further talk to tranist reporters. Go to MTA public hearings. Talk with NYPD. Your councilman who you said you knew should also be able to set you up with the right people to talk to.

I have done all those things, including going to the DA's office,
I even know a high ranking official with the vandals squad.

Maybe if this situation was constantly reported in the newspapers or on the news, someone would take notice.

It is not that newsworthy but again try transit reporters. But keep trying sometimes pestering the same people works, especially with politicians.

Start a signature campaign. Also, try the Straphanger's Campaign.
