Oh I agree. I saw this when on he first day in the theatres and I treat it as it's own movie versus a remake, because if you really hink about it, this movie just used the premise (for lack of better work - I'm tired) from the original and the name & train but can stand on it's own. I think you can watch both back to back and still ben entertained.

Agreed. But Travolta did screw it up. And it *really* needed an ending. What they bolted to the end of the last reel was really wimpy. Other than that, great action flick if you don't have a subway map to check. :)

True, I did feel the end was weak. This movie should not be looked at as being true to real life as the train does not stay near the Lex. I heard a rumor from a buddy of mine who is a production assistant and reads the trade publications that the studio is considering a sequel, and if it is true then the ending may have been left that way because of that, but hope they leave it alone. Besides, I cannot even think of how they can continue the stroyline.

Just saw the remake for the first time the other night. It was more like a mistake. Remakes in general are pathetic but this was really bad. It had no class like the original and absolutely no New York feeling whatsoever. The 1974 movie was very realistic and the cast was superb.

The clincher to this pathetic remake was a supposedly East Side IRT ending up on the BMT Culver to Coney Island no less!

I don't think of it as a remake, so wouldn't go that far to call it pathetic. I take it on it's own drama, with just a few elements from the original. But, from a railfan aspect, it is full of inaccuracies.

Yeah that is strange that only 2 men had to pee. Also, I didn't know that you can open only 1 set of doors. I think it is a hollywood thing, but maybe the NTT's can do that?

Saw some of the DVD last night at work. Had to leave the room when some of the technical gaffs/inaccuracies came out. Laughed out loud at the constant reference to `Motorman` throughout the film.

I also thought Travolta(sp) went a little overboard with the profanity.

Spoiler alert: The twist was, Garber being demoted for charges of bribery. When he went through his litany of jobs with the Transit Authority, I couldn`t help but think of GIravage and Randyo.

Yeah the profanity was a little overkill IMHO.

I thought that too of the many jobs he had. I also liked the way the mayor was portrayed (?sp) like Bloomberg, and the comment about leaving his "Guliani(?sp) suit at home". Sadly the real life Bloomberg did run for re-election and sadly won too.

Here are the final thoughts of the movie from Lee Weber who did the review for AVS Forums

Final Thoughts:

The talent that worked on this project saved this borderline mediocre movie and made the Pelham 123 train worth a ride. Even with great actors, a prominent director and well regarded source material, the movie some how falls flat. However, I can recommend giving it a spin based on the quality of the audio and video transfer...just please don't expect a great movie.

Do you mean the 1998 remake? That one I could not get through even three minutes of!

Well, I do not think it is as bad as he is saying. After all he is just a critic, I do not put much stock in any of them. Personally, I find that I like many movies they don't. I use them only as a guide not as a whether or not to watch a movie type deal.

This version is not as good as the original. Folks should not really think of this as a 'remake' but rather as it's own movie. They did take some lines/plots from the original, but both can be watched seperately and enjoyed seperately.
