I hate the C-3's, they do not hold up well to NJT's multilevels, especially in the comfort department.

I can buy a round trip ticket from Hoboken to Hackettstown or Newark to High Bridge for only a dollar or two more than a similarly distanced one way trip on the NY railroads.

That is false.

Hoboken to Hackettstown: $21.50 Off-Peak RT

Penn Station to Mastic-Shirley: $12.75 Off-Peak OW

I know he was kidding which is why I put the j/k there and also said I am messing with him. I know your not a thief and apologize if I implied that. Yeah it is not working as much now as in the past. I was on an MNR train a few weeks ago where I got on at Yonkers and this teenager went straight for the bathroom. When the c/r came around and after I showed him my id the c/r asked me if there was a "young person" in the bathroom I said yes. The c/r just stood there and waited. A few minutes later the kid peeks his head out and there was the c/r who told him to get off at the next stop. Thankfully, the c/r's are on top of it now.

You know, sometimes I'll get on a train and I really do have to use the head first thing. I feel like yelling "not a scam" at the conductor.

your pal,
Fred

Well, I think the conductors do realize when it is a need to go and a way of avoiding the fare. A seasoned c/r will know. Hell, I am not a c/r but can tell when one is needing to go and one is trying to get on for free

Just change the ID's to suit your bias:

"Three Apple engineers and three Microsoft employees are traveling by train to a conference. At the station, the three Microsoft employees each buy tickets and watch as the three Apple engineers buy only a single ticket.

"'How are three people going to travel on only one ticket?' asks a Microsoft employee. "Watch and you'll see," answers the Apple engineer. They all board the train. The Microsoft employees take their respective seats but all three Apple engineers cram into a rest room and close the door behind them.

"Shortly after the train has departed, the conductor comes around collecting tickets. He knocks on the rest room door and says, "Ticket, please."

"The door opens just a crack and a single arm emerges with a ticket in hand. The conductor takes it and moves on. The Microsoft employees saw this and agreed it was quite a clever idea.

"So after the conference, the Microsoft employees decide to copy the Apple engineers on the return trip and save some money. When they get to the station, they buy a single ticket for the return trip. To their astonishment, the Apple engineers don't buy a ticket at all. "How are you going to travel without a ticket?" asks one perplexed Microsoft employee. "Watch and you'll see," answers an Apple engineer.

"When they board the train the three Microsoft employees cram into a rest room and the three Apple engineers cram into another one nearby. The train departs. Shortly afterward, one of the Apple engineers leaves his rest room and walks over to the rest room where the Microsoft employees are hiding.

"He knocks on the door and says, "Ticket, please"."

Okay, my mistake and a bad one at that. However after the numerous problems LIRR had with the prototype dual modes that they and MNR were jointly testing (including not being able to run them initially when the wanted to put the prototype bi-levels into passenger service), LIRR definitely wanted something of their own, seperate from MNR. That was shortlived of course as they had to go in with MNR on for the M7s (MNR and LIRR M7s have their differences besides the obvious third rail shoe).

I know, no kidding, what's the point? First off, it was a joke, do you really think I want them to bring back 40 year old engines as a replacement. Second, it was just an observation, that "something" else can pull the C3's if modified. The GP38-2's that pulled that train were modified to pull the C1's.

your point is valid. Cant dispute that... but my post wasnt coming at you.
I was clearly stating to those who didnt kno that those were C1's
thats all
and to add to you post
I want them to get rid of those DM/DE3OAC's
Go get some Gennies and mod those to pull those C3's
