Even though it's relatively short ride and the trains are still the old Budd units (You can have a Bud, I'll take a Blue Moon, no worries.) it's a tatse of rail travel. It takes us right to where we want to go and we don't even have to leave the building if we don't feel like it. But we will to get a fresh WAWA coffee. See, it's a local thing as well as a regional thing. Back in the day, we coulda taken the trains from Allentown right on down the line. I think some of those tracks still exist and it would be cool to ride down through to Bethlehem, Hellertown, Quakertown and on the rest of the way to Philly. It'll be really cool when those new Hyundai cars start rolling. If you go to the auto show, try Empress Gardens on N. 10th Street. Excellent, small and personal Chinese restaurant. |

Ever see the nascent "Greenway" in Bethlehem . . . ? Also, last time I passed by Hellertown and Coopersburg, I took note of the severed grade crossings. That RR used to have trains running from Washington DC to Boston, too. |

They did it as a buffer between the old South Side homes across from the new shiny casino. Railroad travel was huge in these here parts back in the day. But nothing's going on right now. I still have to drive to get tp NYC or Philly's mass-transit and regional rails. |
