Yes, she asked me to take her picture and send her a copy which I did earlier this week. She has also been featured in some tourist magazines.

BTW the first operator was pretty good looking.

I got her so flustered that she blew the switch at Lee Circle and started heading back downtown. She had to reverse, and when she caught back up to us on St. Charles she put her hand up every time I took a picture. I was sitting in the operators seat in the streetcar in front of her.

Did either of those ladies point out that all those elegant mansions along St. Charles are single family homes?

Hysterical!

My funniest experience on a streetcar in New Orleans was back around 2003 or so, and I was on the St Charles line along the Carrollton section. All of a sudden, the streetcar stops in the middle of a block, and the guy driving it says "I'll be right back folks", with the typical southern LA accent.... He runs across the street and into a Subway sandwich shop. And we sit there....no one says a word....nothing out of the ordinary, streetcars backing up behind us.... Finally, after some minutes, the guy comes running out of the Subway sandwich shop, with a bag with a hero (of excuse me, po'boy) in it!!! He stopped to get lunch!! He jumps back in the streetcar, sets it forward, and onwards we go... No one flinched (it was a full car), no one said a word....no one complained, and off we went..... Imagine that happening in New York!

---Only in New Orleans----

The first thing I learned when I got there the first time was to Sloooooooowwwww way down.... Nothing phases them....

The one thing I noticed down there is how friendly and nice the majority of the people in New Orleans are. They are great people.
The place is such a "dirty" city, but nothing phases them. I hated the place when I first went there....but within a day, I was hooked....the place gets in your blood. I left loving the place.
It's so much more relaxed than NY (not that I would want to live there). I remember getting off at the airport the first time, and it was if I landed on another planet. We sort of just walked around with our mouths open, the people are so much different....so much SLOWER. As a New Yorker, you have to SLOW way down...

It's like that in much of the deep south. I was in Knoxville TN recently and surprise to pass ladies on the streets who would actually make eye contact and smile and say "hi, how are ya today"! In NYC if a woman says that to me on the street, I ask "how much, darling?"

EXACTLY!! That's what it's like in New Orleans.... Everyone is so friendly. Some guy working humming some song while handtrucking stuff in the store, "Can I take your order, Sweetie" at the deli, random people on the street saying, "Good morning" - everything is just slower and friendlier, especially if you are used to NY.

When our son was in the army he was stationed at Fort Binning in Columbus Georgia and we were there for 2 weeks because of his graduation from basic training, we found the people there extremely friendly, totally different from most places we've been to.and a slower pace, I still wouldn't mind moving there. It sounds just like New Orleans. And as NYers we expect everything "quick". That you have to throw out the window when there. And it's hard for NYers to do that.
For example, I remember calling the airport service company to arrange for a pick up from my hotel the say I was leaving..... I got some older southern lady on the phone, and it progressed at a snails pace. I told her the hotel, and she kept saying some other hotel, and I kept telling her it was the wrong one, and she would say, "I understand huuuuuney"....and would again repeat the wrong hotel. 5 minutes.... 10 minutes .....15 minutes.... And I am still on the phone trying to arrange the pick up! She repeated the correct hotel.... and we were finally done after about a 20 minute phone call. The next morning we were outside the hotel, 15 minutes early for our pick up..... 15 minutes come and go....and another 10 or 15 minutes....still no airport car service.... Finally, I call the company, and thewoman (a different woman than the day before), puts me on hold, then about 10 minutes later, she's back on, and says "Please go downstairs to the front of the hotel, he's waiting for you there". I said "I am out front....". She said, "no you aren't, he's been there for 15 minutes waiting for you...."
And guess where he was ------ the hotel I spent 25 minutes the day before telling the "sweet" lady on the phone the other day that it was the wrong hotel...... Gotta love it....luckily the hotel he was waiting at was only a couple blocks away, so we made it to the airport on time....

Hahahahha! Yeah, exactly! The food is GREAT though. I ordered a Po'Boy at Johnny's, over on St Louis St, near Decatur.... Best "heros" (lol, po'boy) I ever had. But it takes foooooorrrrrrever for them to place the order....and then to wait for it. I don't know what takes longer though, to place the order (which probably is it) or for them to make it! Definitely not a "New York Minute"....

In 1967 I took a three week vacation and drove down through Florida and then back up and through the southern states I tried to hit every one and I did, and was that an experience I'll never forget, and some I'd like to forget.
And in every southern state there was that southern hospitality, it kinda put me into shock at first but it didn't take long to get accustomed to it, the only problem was being back in New York it took
almost forever to come back to the stark reality of being back in the
big apple heh, heh, Karl M

The first time I stayed in New Orleans, a while back, I had a hotel (Raddison) WAAAYYYY down Canal St near I10, and while you could walk to the French Quarter and Downtown, it was sort of a hike, so the hotel had a shuttle bus that would leave every 1/2 hour or so, and stop at a few places around town (Convention Center, Riverwalk, French Market, etc, etc). But anyway, it was an older retired Black gentleman that was the shuttle bus guy, and he would just talk from the minute you walked into the bus, to when you got off, and talk about historical spots, history, current stuff in the city, etc, etc.
I learned so much stuff from him!

I should have asked for copies of this set of photos I took with these rather friendly co-eds who were heading from Fairfield to GCT for the St. Patrick's Day Parade this year.....group of about 20!! Literally half the group asked me to come with them to the parade.....wouldn't have held well with the miss, so I had to say no. The girls said to tell her she is a lucky woman to have a guy like me!! I didn't think they took such a liking to a big ol' grunt like me!! The most flattering one was when 3 of them took a pic with me while showing off their belly button piercings!! (Not gonna lie.....that was f**kin' nice, man!!)

Well....next time, I shall share my email and see if they send it to me, and them you know I ma gonna have to show off!! :-D
