Lawsuits like this should be filed across the country each and every time a photographer is detained - only then will the harassment stop. |

IMHO, Taylor's lawsuit will address his individual case, there needs to be a class-action suit involving all photographers (rail and non-rail alike) that are harrassed by the police during a set time frame. |

I know - and it does seem that the situation in NYC is getting better. Even if it isn't a class action lawsuit if each and every photographer who is harassed files a lawsuit instead of just accepting the harassment then police departments across the country will take notice and stop bothering photographers. All too many photographers just accept it and move on thereby enabling the authorities to continue. Kudos to those who sue! |

It's also our tax money paying for these police officers to harass innocent photographers in the first place. I'm not sure that's any better use of public funds than paying out a settlement for unlawful harassment. |

It also brings attention to the matter. While $1,000,000 is excessive in compensatory damages, it certainly is a shocking figure, isn't it?Still, I'm expecting to see RType3995 shooting with one of these, or at the very least, a couple D3X's . . . |

That is unacceptable! Police departments and the cities that employ them need to be sued repeatedly until they get the message. And they are getting the message - unless there has been another major incident that we are not aware of it appears that the NYPD has eased up. |

I think it takes some balls to sue your own employer's police services. It would take even more to sue your own employer. I think it would be better if TA employees were on better terms with the police that are supposedly there to protect them and the public. Having the police barge into a station and start arresting TA employees for doing legal things, looks really stupid on everybody's part. Not just the NYPD's. It would be nice if the TA could stand up for its own employees doing legal things on TA property, instead of making them fend their way on their own. |

Do you even remember reading the article? The point was that harassment of photographers is nothing new.If we'd followed your logic of "doing nothing," photography would've been prohibited in 2005, since the NYPD dropped its request to the MTA for prohibiting photography only in response to massive public outcry. |
