No way I'm paying big money to see a Hollywoodized version of a film that is an absolute NYC classic that didn't need to be remade again.

Just the little scene when Garber meets Inspector Daniels in the unmarked car and seeing that he is black, starts fumfering "Oh, I thought you were taller, er, shorter, er, I don't know what I thought."

Classic.

Despite the inconsistencies, which distracted me, it was a good movie and I recommend it. It is more like a sequal, than a remake.

Would that make it Pelham 123-2?

Heck, the NY Times can't even quote the thing properly these days.

The actual quote:

"You know what they’re going to say. The Times is going to support you. The News is going to knock you. The Post will take both sides at the same time. The rich will support you...so will the blacks, the Puerto Ricans won't give a shit...but come on, Al, quit stalling!

Despite all that, they did make the white man appear to be the ignorant one in the end as he discovers that they understood english. Same thing as Daniels turned out to be right about the deadman, Mr. Grey using the N-word towards a passenger, and Caz objecting to a woman (who was also black) working there. In all, it was the portrayal of white men as ignorant racists.

Feldecarb! :)

I watched part of one episode of the "new" Galactica before I bailed (too much weirdness, not enough Colonial Vipers), and I noticed they got rid of all those cool "decimal-type" time units from the 1978 series "centons", etc. Guess they thought it would go over the head of the target audience (which for the most part is 30 years dumber).

You, know that is a good point. In a recent magazine, Washington said it best. That this is not a remake it is a movie to stand on its own (or something like that). I agree as I told several people I know I said they can watch this new version first without it ruining the old versions for them

After I saw the 2009 Pelham Bay 1-2-3, I watched the 1974 version. The problem with the new movie is that the 1974 movie was SO ACCURATE. As far as I know, there may have been a few stations that had labels from other stations in the first version.

Am I right when I stated that 1974 Taking Of Pelham Bay 1-2-3 was 99% accurate.

I think the biggest stretch was the number 6 going to South Ferry instead of Brooklyn Bridge. And using the stations on the number 1 local instead of the 6.

Honestly, it is just a movie other than us railfans most will not know the difference excpet for 1 or 2 obvious differences and most people do not really expect everything to be 100% accurate. Just because the 1974 version was very accurate (I doubt 99%) does not mean anything really things have to be updated for the time at least this movie was filmed here rather than the Toronto version

Check it out in the original, I'm sure it was mentioned here but I'll say it. Grand Central tower was actually today's New York Transit Museum or Court Street terminal tower. The train ran on the 6th Ave line @ some points in the original also. Take a look in some of the scenes where U'll C R-22 #7339 coupled to an R-10 @ Hoyt n Schermhorn St. In the movie that was suppose to B 42nd St. We all know the #6 runs up against the wall since it's a local. In fact they used a bunch of R-22's for that movie. The operating car was #7339 but in some scenes, They even used 7434 as an operating car in some of the tunnel scenes. Also as the train left what was that 28th Street Station the last car of the train had car #9339 on it and this was an R-22!

Yep, and 7439 was the lead motor of Pelham 128 (the trailer of Pelham 123 that was stuck at 28th St and whose radio Inspector Daniels used to communicate w/ Garber.

Incidentally, a few months after I saw Pelham 123, I saw 7339, this time on its correct line (3). Still was graffiti-free, just like in the film (dunno when they filmed those scenes, had to be early 1974 at the latest, so I dunno how the TA kept it from getting tagged for about a year). Unlike in the film, it was buried in the middle of the consist.

I didn't read this entire thread, but Channel 11 in NYC will show the original version of Pelham at 8:00 P.M. Sunday evening, June 14th. It will be on until 10:00 P.M. They talked about it after they did a review of the new Pelham movie on Saturday's Channel 11 News at Ten. From the clips I saw in the review, I don't think I like the new version.

Have not seen that for ten years, when it was on cable. Have found the movie on youtube and will watch it again today.

One thing I remember is an outside scene. Inside was a mock up of a Worlds Fair car. Outside, it showed a modern car (R22? forgot which) as if it were the outside of that same car.

Have seen that happen in other movies.

Here is an explanation of the producers dealing with NYCTA in 1967, when trying to film on TA property.

The Arclight is a little nicer than most theaters and it's in Hollywood. For example it has assigned seating. I could have paid a couple of dollars less if I saw it somewhere else.

New releases cost between $2.50 and $5.00 out here.

Really??!?? $2.50-$5.00 is just ridiculous. That's what I was paying when I was in college over 20 years ago.

Yes indeed. Here's a little snippet of The Incident. Lovely motor sounds...
