Wow, really feels like an end of an era, as my home station for the last 6 years has been on the G. However, this is one line that could really benefit from the R160's, for two reasons. #1 because it can be made perfectly clear when boarding whether or not my train is going to Queens or not (and face it, half of the time the R46 displays don't tell you the correct info, since C/R and especially OPTO T/O's never update them for the Queens-bound trip) and #2 when operating on OPTO, the announcements will be made for the T/O, so he has one less thing to do = less dwell time at stations.Of course, I realistically understand that the only reason that R160 was running is because it was a rerouted F train, and that the normal weekend G service is not going to be running 160's anytime this year. |

It would be nice, though, even if it was just a 5-car set.Wouldn't that mean they'd have to install 5-car stop markers at all the G stations if they do switch to R160's? |

They could just stop at the 6-car marker, but if they don't fit at the current R46 4-car boards, they'd have to install new C/R boards. |

Then the G would not be able to run OPTO, and beside all the 4 car units of R160's are only at ENY for the J, M and L lines. The TA is not going to get any more 4 car units for any other yard other then ENY. The G MIGHT run 1, 5 car units all the time once Jamica Yard gets all there R160's. |

That makes sense plus offers more flexibility for other lines that needs a full 600' train. But will they ever run say a 600' train on the G and not just for this kind of GO? |

But will they ever run say a 600' train on the G and not just for this kind of GO?How are we supposed to know the future? What kind of answer are you looking for? The short answer is "maybe", as in "maybe in the future they will choose to run 600' trains on the (G) line for some reason other than this kind of GO". I could see such a situation happening if the population/demand along the line increased tremendously. |

Anytime the GG runs to Coney Island from Court Square,C/R's areassigned as per G.O. & Supplement. OPTO suspended is spelled out in the G.O. |

Because that was on the road at "Pumpkin Time"-the G.O. going inat Midnight. You can't always spot what you want off the road. The main priority is getting inspections/B.O.'s/washes off the road. Sometimes you get 4 or 5 R-160's in a row.You don't want terminal congestion if you can avoid it,which is hat might happen if you try swapping off the R-160's.The best trains to take off are the R-42's. Why? Because the R-42's would have to get their side signs changed at the START & FINISH of the G.O.Having the time & the bodies to straighten out the signs at midnight Friday night & 5AM Monday morningis a crap shoot at best.Best to leave the R-46's & R-160's with sign changing at the push of a button.Another good reason to leave the R-160's on the road is these are new cars UNDER WARRANTY.The Warranty is based on time.Run the hell out of them & lay up the older stuff. |
