That's odd for NYCT!I see that all the time on the SIR though. There's all different kinds of combos, especially on the 5-car length trains. |

I've seen the A end of an A car coupled to the B end of another A car.Do they still run 5-car sets on the SIR? Most I've ever seen on that line is 4. |

Yeah, one car would have to be locked out if it was a local and defeat the point of a 5-car train. I would guess this would be for the super express? |

Actually, that is the best QB line to put a set like this on.All those cabs take up valuable passenger space, so might as well put it on the lowest ridership line. |

They did that on the (F) also, Nothing New, They did this since 2001, I rerember seeing that on the (E) when most of it R32's went to the (Q) during the (9/11) service changes. |

The best place for the A cars is on the G line since you get 4 compressors instead of 2. Tough to accomplish becasue they come out to Continental part time. With any ABBA set on the G, if one compressor is not working as designed, the t/o could be in trouble. |

Actually I wonder if the G explains it - the two routes share equipment, don't they? Maybe 2 AAAA sets that were on the G got hooked up for V service, thus the AAAAAAAA ? |

Well I was just trying to explain the odds better. 2 AAAA sets on the G aren't such a major rarity, but an 8-car A set is. The reason why it doesn't happen more frequently would be that given the low probability of finding AAAA sets on the G, the odds of 2 AAAA sets hooking up to make up a V train are much lower. |

Well true, it would be pretty rare to find 2 AAAA sets and combine them into one train. But I guess it works out how it was given to the V since it won't take up as much space as it would for the F.Maybe that's what they need to do and that is putting all the AAAA sets on the V. |

Yeah my claim was that because the G and V share equipment - if I recall right - then you get that part for free; no independent decision, just that some of the equipment goes back and forth between the two routes. |

Wouldn't make sense on the E, F or R. E for too few doors, F and R for too many cabs for the ridership.Yes, I agree with you about 4 A cars on the G. |
