42nd Street Shuttle to Jerome?

The rumor mill has is that the 42nd Street Shuttle and it's R62As moved to Jerome, which means no more R62As on the 3.

Is this real, or just an explosion of compressed foam fiction?

I hope not...well, it really doesn't matter, as long as the trains are there...

Where did you hear this from? Plus aren't these R62A's usually at Livonia?
Well i guess it would mean the 2-3 R62's left on the 4 would finally be moved to the 3.

It's true......Was looking at something on the MTA employee only web site called TENS, #4 Line Manager is also responsible for the Shuttle, or so it seems.

A friend e-mailed me to tell me about car assignment changes on the 1,2,3,4,5 and Shuttle.

240th St Yard (1) has acquired 10 single R62A's for the new SF Terminal Service, formerly of the Shuttle

239th St Yard (2) loses 5 R142's (6681-85), allotment goes from 385 cars to 380 cars

Livonia Yard (3) is 100% R62, 315 Cars in total

Mosholu (4)(S) received 10 R-142's from elsewhere (from the 5), Cars 7061-7070. 10 R62's from Livonia Yard can be used for 4 service as needed. 18 of the original 28 shuttle cars have been re-assigned from Livonia to Mosholu. 10 cars for the base shuttle service and 8 spares. Not enough cars to put them into regular 4 service.

I was fortunate enough to catch the site of a 3 car shuttle at Jackson Middle some days ago. I believe, but cannot actually confirm that the set was coming from Track 4.

E.180th St Yard (5) lost 10 cars to Mosholu (7061-70) and received 5 cars (6681-85) from 239th St Yard bringing the total assignement from 385 Cars on the 5, to 380 Cars instead.

Lots of interesting stuff! Many thanx to a friend (you know who you are) for providing that info.

-Stef

Very interesting. You would think that if the Shuttle cars were to be reassigned, they would go to a yard with easy access to both the East and West Side lines. Livonia, E.180/Unionport, and 239 yards all have that. Jerome doesn't.

So, in addition to this, you mean that replacement of strip maps on those R142s probably may have gone on as well? Not to mention that the RFW is still on the mainline 7th Av IRT? Ok. Thanks for the info. Sad to see my home line lose its only piece of the '90s, though.

The worst case scenario at least with Track 4 for transfers would be to utilize the Loop at the Ferry. There might be a few extra moves involved, but it's definitely doable.

I haven't seen the singles on Broadway as of yet, was going to check with my source and see if the set is still together or if they are being mixed with the linked sets.

The RFW might be questionable....

Plus from Jerome yard the 7 of 10 cars can easily access the shuttle from the downtown local track.
Btw, should the shuttle on the TS side be reconstructed to fit 5-car trains, do you think they will keep track 4 open or just use it for 'storage'.

I agree with your post about the 7 cars that have access from the Local Track, Tracks 1 and 3 are connected to the East Side, no problems there....

Track 4 on the other hand, is problematic. The Shuttle comes into TS on a curve, not all doors in the last car of that train open (on the Grand Central End).

If the plans for the Shuttle Rehab ever comes to frution, Track 4 would be abandoned, while 1 and 3 could be lengthened to hold 5 cars on each. All Plans are subject to change, let's wait and see how this plays out.

Of course if that happens, and we get 5 car trains, there would be no need for single unit R62A's.

True and thanks for the replies.
Plus a future closing of track 4 would mean the shuttle would be exclusive to the East Side and makes more sense to have it based from the Jerome Yard.

The 4 Line has had responsibility for the Shuttle for years.
