Back to Brodaway on the G |
|
Posted by Allan on Thu Feb 19 15:57:34 2009 Guess what. The fix that William Padron mentioned in his posting http://www.subchat.com/read.asp?Id=745316 has been unfixed.I was at the station around 1 PM today and the sign reads "BRODAWAY" again. I habe no idea who might have removed the adhesive letters but perjaps the MTA will leave things alone so that the sign can remain as part of the lore (and lure) of the subway. |

The MTA will respond when some newspaper complains about a sign with a typo, which has been there for 60 years and there's no way that nobody in the agency knew about it.......but they still won't do anything about the fact that their passengers and even employees are getting arrested for legal activities which they even state in their own rules of conduct are legal? I know, two different situations, but one seems way more important than the other...... |

I was going to post this but wanted to hold off and see how long the "correction" would last.On Sunday 2/15, I went to Broadway station and paced up and down a couple of times to find the famous gaff. Well, I did find it, only to see that the letters "D" and "A" were in correction mode, but they didn't reflect the original font. I thought that they removed the tiles and inserted two replacements, but the tile grout was original. The stickers were cleverly done and if the font was identical, nobody would be the wiser. A scrape with my finger nail revealed that it was indeed a sticker. But I knew it was only a matter of time before someone would peel off the stickers and "Brodaway" would see the light of day. Now let's see how long before the TA places new stickers on the tiles and starts the whole cycle over again. Bill "Newkirk" |

This sort of reminds me of the "3 Ave Local" sign for the E at West 4th. After a while, they put tape on it to make the "3" into an "8" and someone peeled the tape off. Then, they tried paint (it looked like Wite-Out) and someone put black ink over the tape. They finally put a replacement label over the whole sign. Somewhere, I have pictures with the tape coming off and the paint looking awful. When taking one of them, got an earful from an idiot passenger who insisted that photography was illegal in the subway. So, the motto should be "When you see something legal that you think is illegal, say something stupid."? |

You should have told that passenger you were reporting an illegal sign hanging on the wall. And you were taking the pic to prove an illegal sign sign exists and where.BTW, Where on West 4th is/was the sign? |

In case any wonders, and for the record, I had seen that *correction* with those stickers at Broadway station on Monday, February 16, 2009 at 4:30pm. I was able to see this as a quickie stopover while riding the R-46 "G" trains, which were running to/from 71st Avenue-Forest Hills on that President's Day holiday.-William A. Padron ["Queens-Forest Hills"] |

It's only 1 error, most folks would never have noticed it, a lot of folks with non-native accents may pronounce it that way anyway, and most imporatantly, that error is classic! Been that way since FDR- ain't hurtin' no one now. |
