LARGE SIZE GIFs: NJTA E9 and mixed Comets

NJTA's EMD E9s lasted until the late 1990s when they were replaced by the EMD F59PHIs. In 1985, the E9s were fitted with HEP sets to allow them to operate with the rebuilt Comet IB and new Comet III cars. NJTA would often back then as it does now; mix various car types together. Comet II Coach 5965 was built by MBB to match the MBTA coaches that were built around the same time. This is a typical early 90s E9 powered consist.

So let me get this straight. NJTA is your idea of what it'd be like if NJT had the crap-tastic service of MBTA or Metra? Hmm, I smell a few tons of foam.

In his defense, NJTA probably electrified a higher ratio of trackage in the last 20 years than the actual NJT!

NJTA also provides better express service over NJT's lines then NJT does. If it wasn't for NJT (Boonton Line) and one of the lines (Kenilworth Line) running over part of a busy freight line (Lehigh Line between Aldene and Newark) there would be little or no need for the diesels.

Where do you get the idea that NJTA offers crappy service? The train shown is an afternoon eastbound run. Two cars are enough for the number of passengers except when an Arrow II was on an NJT train ahead of it in a downpour. Are you one of those people who would inspect the crews' socks at NYP and write them up if they weren't the right color?

Interesting info. Now I know those "F-unit" locos I saw arounf NJT territory when younger were actually E9s. And those trains were moving fast, as well. I can imagine if they were still around today, I'd be going CRAZY over their being retired.

Hmm, since Metra's E8s and E9s were freaking out the engineers with views of the ballast through the floor at 65mph I can't say it says much of your foamer visions for NJT to operate the same units well after Metra was rid of theirs.

NJTA's E9s were heavily overhauled in 1985. The ex-BN E7s were retired in the mid-80s with only one being fitted to run with the Comets. This may be easier for you to understand.

NJTA's E9s = MN's FL9s

This is a very busy Q Train compounded by a dead Arrow II that was just towed out of the way. The MBB cars and NJTA's Arrow IIs were regularly assigned to the Q.

What? What does that mean? From were do you come up with this? Why? My post was normal, and it is nice to know that NJT had E9s. Because I saw those "f-unit" type locos on NJT territory before.

Um, in real life, you can't run F59PHIs anywhere in NJ. Clearances are too low. Besides, those 12-bangers are underpowered; they hate 'em in CA.

The F59 looks to be a bit taller then the F40. As I stare down my models of the two locomotives. What clearances are too low? NJTA's getting rid of them, they've been trouble from the start. Are the clearances too low for the B32-8WH?

F59PH(I) is 15' 11" tall.

The B32-8WH looks like it could make the clearances. But per hogger anecdotes, it's a rough rider.
