"The number of lire trips is tiny in comparison afaik."It is? Look at all the different branch lines...LIRR has hundreds of train, train-to-train, train-to-walk, train-to-bus, train-to-ferry experiences for the active fan. And it offers some really unique prospectives. Try riding out to Yaphank one day. |

The diamond crossover would have been just to the west of the Lexington Avenue platforms. By the late 70s, the tunnel "shell" from there eastward was already in place-bureaucratic delays kept the completion delayed until late 1989. |

Thats why they call it "paying your dues!".I remember one unusually hot May day when it was 95 degrees. All the buses were out of service and there were literally 25 operators waiting for buses. One pulls out of the depot and who does the dispatcher call out to take it to break who knows how long of a headway? Me, the rookie with only 8 months on the job, while the senior guys stood around and laughed. |

I could totally understand wanting to trim as much as they could, as at that time, among other things, we were dealing with what what probably is the recession (1973-'75) some are now comparing this recession to among other things, with NYC in those days broke. The real problem was the overspending in earlier eras caught up to a lot of big cities by the '70s, and that was a lot of the cause, at least in my opinion. |

So are You saying I'm lying? If need be..ask a few of the ol' timers around this board..or better yet LOOK IT UP... I don't need to..I was THERE...also..Most of this stuff IS PUBLIC DOCUMENT...that you can find in a LIBRARY.. Or better yet you can ask yourself a few simple questions..like WHY did they destroy several elevated line when all the really needed was a little TLC..? Or why did they really do the "Beame Shuffle"..when it was much more easier to raise the fare 15 cents..or simply TELL THE UMTA THE TRUTH about what happened to the money..or what happened to most of the money from the first TWO CAPITOL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMS that they had have WATCHDOGS checking the books..to make sure the fund were going to where they were suppose to go... Explain RON..why the ARCHER AVENUE AND 63RD st lines started decaying RIGHT AFTER THEY WERE COMPLETED..So much so that whole track beds had to be rebuilt..signals replaced..fans replaced...crew rooms with backed up toilets and so forth...bettcha can't do it... OR instead of trying to sneak by the "riding public" about the PROPOSED ROUTE CHANGES..Why didn't they just come out in the open and EXPLAIN WHY THEY THOUGHT it might have to be done. But I can see that since you are so far up the MTA's ass the we can't tell where you begin and they end..you won't take the time to find out this for yourself,BEFORE doing what RON does best...TALKING OUT OF YOUR ASS... So I figure.if anyone need medication..its YOU.."Yes Man". Better yet..Why don't you remove your head from their ass just long enough..that you can see what happening in the REAL WORLD for a change? For a Person thats suppose to be "in the know"..you certainly don't KNOW MUCH...So Im going to TEACH you.. Here your FIRST LESSON... Shut Up..LISTEN...then ASK QUESTIONS... Clear enough for You? |

Explain RON..why the ARCHER AVENUE AND 63RD st lines started decaying RIGHT AFTER THEY WERE COMPLETED..So much so that whole track beds had to be rebuilt..signals replaced..fans replaced...crew rooms with backed up toilets and so forth...bettcha can't do it...Jim Dwyer's subway lives tells a tale of the construction of 63rd. Inspectors would be present for the first 3 concrete deliveries of the day and then leave before the 4th, and that 4th delivery would be of a useless material referred to in the book as 'blue stone'. MTA was still being charged for something that would be delivered and dumped immediately, which meant that deliveries had to be extended. The contraction plan is well documented, Although not EVERY branch would've been abandoned. |
