IIRC, isn't the bulk of the Javits extension funding from NYC bonds, not the MTA's funding or bonding capabilities?Yes. It is a unique funding source that in all likelihood can not be replicated in any other pat of the city. Funding the 7 extension has a little impact on other capital projects, but not much. |

MTAis already running 5 big projects,SAS, ESA, 7 to Javits..... what else? He is probably thinking of South Ferry and Fulton Transit Center. It should be noted that these last two are funded by federal 9/11 money. |

And another thing with that:It needs to be remembered that Bear Stearns was still at over $100 a share as I recall on March 3. The collapse of Bear Stearns occured after that, and we know what happened there two weeks later. That likely was a huge factor in the drop in revenues in such a short time. |

As said upthread:How much a share was Bear Stearns on March 3rd, and where was it two weeks later? That is a big reason why at least in my opinion the differences between then and now. |

Thanks, but no, you said it as part of normal conversation. Someone said that ventilation projects and station renovations are both important, and then you tried to imply that station renovations were less important due to the crappy quality of some aspects of some renovations. However it is clear that you have not seen RECENT renovations, which are the type that would be done. |

But now, the current costs are on the MTA.Keep in mind that money for South Ferry and FTC could not be spent north of Canal. |

I don't think we will EVER see the subways return to the state they were in back in 1980 (and I remember how bad that service really was at times back then), as that of course was caused by DECADES of deferred matinence that I don't think we'll see again. |

We're pretty close to a REPEAT of those economic times, and as we're all seeing now in all those retrenchments, it COULD happen again. :( |
