Ick, the seats look like bad 70s furniture. Surprised they didn't put down a shag rug as well.

MTA thanks you for that comment!

As you can see from the other colors they've used on seats, especially on NYCT, there's no reason to imagine that the 1970s spirit doesn't live on.

Meh... Doesn't look much worse then the M7 to me. (decent interior, ugly exterior)

In the end, they will feature the specified shittyness found in the M7 fleet, and the MTA will have nobody but themselves to blame for ordering cars inferior to their replacements.

And... Theyll probably have to replace even more elevated structures as these are even heavier then the M7s.

I arrived at Track 25 at 2PM (I was wearing a blue jacket and jeans). I will admit that the M8 is slightly better than I expected. I still hate the choice of colors for the seats but the seats are very comfortable. I like that oval light in the vestibule. The M7 is better than the M8 but the M8 isn't a total disaster. If they simply made a few aesthetic changes the M8 would be perfect.

"how is the leg room for facing seats?"

They suck. I'm only 5'10" and my knees were up against the opposite facing seats, but the rest of the "train" was okay. I was there around 1:30 btw

I visited the M8 mockup today, around 3:15 PM.

Overall, I like the interior design. The seats are comfortable and I don't have any problems with the color selection. The bathroom is definitely an improvement over those on the previous New Haven line cars.

I filled out the survey card, and one of the items I was asked to rate was "interior destination signs" -- but the mockup didn't appear to have any. Oh well.

A nice touch was the exterior sign that read along the lines of "Although this M8 mockup may look cool, it does not feature air conditioning, unlike the real M8s."

Wow . . . paint affects the operating characteristics of a piece of rail equipment that much?? Good thing they changed the paint scheme of the TGV Sud-Est from orange/brown to blue/silver, right??

How can you hate "the best car ever built" based on paint . . . ? If you don't like the paint, complain to Connecticut DOT. Paint doesn't make a train run any better or any worse.

I like the idea of red for the exterior scheme, but the interior? Some psychologists believe that a room's color can effect the attitudes and moods of those who are in them. Dark blue/black = sadness/depression, puke green = calming, red = builds anger by raising blood pressure. So on a commuter-railroad, I would think that an anger producing color like a strong red would not be ideal in the case of a delay. This may not be great news for MNRR conductors. :-)

You've been in 150°F ambient temperature? How did you survive?

Did you see any Harlem/Hudson riders get upset? Or are they content enough with the M7As?

I suspect GC doesn't know someone in a wheelchair, that's all. It is quite an eye opener when you first get involved with a "chair-person", and you quickly learn they need lotsa room.

To clear the matter, i didn't mean to sound like "get rid of all Ada bathrooms", i just thought maybe the bathrooms should've been built smaller by one row. Espcially since the M7's are so narrow as it is.
